Summary:
The anime will be an adolescent romantic comedy. When a group of friends decide to make a movie over a long summer holiday, they end up learning a little about filmmaking and a lot more about each other and themselves. What begins as a simple way to avoid the summer doldrums quickly turns into something much more complex, intimate and revealing, as the maturing relationships between the members of the young cast take on new, and sometimes very unexpected, turns.
Loved this series! Yes, it does cause you to have flashbacks to older classics like Please Teacher! but Ano Natsu carries itself in a fresh, light-hearted manner distinct from any other series I've seen.
If you love romance then you're sure to enjoy Ano Natsu!
My wife and I finished watching this series last night and we both really enjoyed it. It is a short series but each episode builds the story and leaves you wanting to watch 'just one more'. And yes, the love-love triangle in this one is more complicated than Please Teacher! but is still frustratingly heartwarming and concludes in a satisfying way. It has some twists and turns that even I didn't anticipate but that just added to the positive viewing experience!
Technically, the artwork and animation are top notch. Very lively and colourful. Dialog is sharp and the characters really shine through the dialog. The OP and ED are good but not keepers for me and BGM was appropriate also.
One thing we both appreciated was that they kept fanservice to a minimum. Fanservice has it's place but a lot of short romcom series tend to overdo it.
Ano Natsu is destined to be a keeper and although it doesn't feel necessary, I would not be disappointed if they made a second season at all! And yes, my prediction that the resolution would drag on into the credits was correct so keep watching!
