Clannad is, simply put, one of the greatest animes I have ever watched. It had me completely and utterly fixated from the second episode; it is just that good. To be honest, the genre under which Clannad falls (I'm assuming it to be something like slice of life/romance) has never really appealed to me but I think I'm going to have to rewrite my preconceptions. The absolute brilliance of this anime has actually changed me.

The story is most definitely this anime's forte. The intricately woven plot consists of numerous sub stories, each centred around a different character. The way in which each 'mini arc' focuses on a different character proves to be a masterstroke as it works terrifically well with the vast and amazingly well hidden plot twists; which will always leave you wanting more. That much is guaranteed. Onto the character cast.. Whilst the cast is reasonably small, the raw emotional connection shared and the bonds which develop between them will undoubtedly leave you feeling somewhat vulnerable. The way in which Clannad manages to fit perfectly timed comedic elements alongside such serious, emotionally cutting storylines, is completely beyond me. And whilst the animation is not overwhelming, nor the entertainment pulsating action, Clannad will leave you thoroughly entertained and strangely complete. I would not hesitate to recommend this brilliant anime to anyone, except those with a perhaps insufficient attention span, but to anyone even considering this anime I urge you to try watching it. You will not be disappointed. As for me? Well, I'll be watching the sequel.
