on a CLANNAD review? Just wondering....

Now that I've got that out of the way, time to talk about the anime. All in all, Clannad was an incredible visual novel, and the anime managed to stay pretty on key with the story. There were a few minor differences, particularly in the anime drawing style and some of the events, but these are to be expected in the transition from a VN to an anime. One character I would have liked to see more of would be Tomoyo, but fortunately she was able to get her very own episode (and spin-off game too). However, potential viewers beware: this anime is pretty far on the depressing side, and the visual novel is even worse. It shouldn't stop you from watching this terrific series, but it's better to be aware beforehand and not have it be a slap to the face later on.

Let's see, what else? Oh yes, the characters are very well done. Each have their own unique personalities and small quirks that make you love every one of them. The comedy manages to stay excellent, and if you listen closely you can catch the occasional reference to something else. The story unfolds in a way to make you eager to know what's coming next, while all the while making you relate to each of the characters. You quickly form your personal favorites, but there is never anyone you can really dislike. Combining that with a beautiful soundtrack, this anime has quickly become a masterpiece. If you're willing to put the time and effort into watching this series, you will not be disappointed.
