It's a lot of hack and slash with blood. In the anime, Youma blood is colored purple. I personally love watching hack and slash films and watching blood spray everywhere. Claymore is not highly graphic as I may make it seem to appear. It's action based but it has a lot of tactics input into it. It's more like discovering more about the enemy and designing the best way to destroy it. A lot of the situations involve a small party against an incredibly strong enemy. The anime ends with the massacre at Pieta at 26 episodes. Some events in the manga were mashed together to create this ending.
The reason I liked the series a lot and found it memorable was because of the psychological problems our characters encounter. As much as the Claymores need to kill Youma, they become suspicious of their duty and to what's right and what's wrong. Teresa, a Claymore of the past generation, was one of these characters. She appears to not care of what humans think of her and what they do to her but she does want to protect people. In the way that she protected the young Clare, Teresa made a controversial decision at that time to kill humans that were killing other humans, earning her an execution. You also have Priscilla who strongly believed in black and white with no shades of gray in between. Her eventual existence as an Awakened Being poses a problem to the future Claymores and Priscilla herself became a highly unstable entity. The soundtrack that accompanied the series was well done and the animation was really sharp. I enjoyed it very much and have come to like many of the characters.
