Code Geass: Lelouch of the Rebellion (?????? ???????? K?do Giasu: Hangyaku no Rur?shu?), often referred to as simply Code Geass, is a Japanese anime series created by Sunrise, directed by Gor? Taniguchi, and written by Ichir? ?kouchi, with original character designs by manga authors Clamp. Set in an alternate future, the series focus on how the former prince Lelouch Lamperouge obtains a power known as Geass and decides to use it to destroy the Holy Britannian Empire, an imperial monarchy and a superpower that has been conquering various countries.
"Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion" is a great anime. I've put watching it off for a long time because I'm not a big fan of mecha but I've been proven wrong for doing so.
When I heard it would rival "Death Note" I finally decided to give it a try.
To me there are two great groups of anime: serious shows and comedy and like all good serious series Code Geass has a great story.
Like "Death Note" the protagonist receives a mysteries power which allows him to shape the world around him. In both these series it isn't really that power that makes them so great but rather their intelligence and determination but the big difference with "Death Note" is that the antagonists usually don't completely share these qualities. There are battles of minds but just as much fighting robots and the thing that bothers me about this is that sometimes it seems like it's simply the side with the best machine that has the upperhand.
The conversations can be mysteries, impressive and even funny during the high school comedy parts. Some interesting ideas were voiced and some smart strategies explained but sometimes I had some trouble following everything that was said.
The fights and characters look great. There's enough detail and the special effects look realistic.
I was really surprised how much I enjoyed this show and many cliffhangers left me wanting to know what happened next. The second season had me worried for a bit but it turned out just as good as the first and the ending just completely blew me away. It really moved me and convinced me to recommend "Code Geass Lelouch of the Rebellion" to anyone who likes a serious anime.
