Summary:
Five years ago, almost every villager of Ootsuka died due to a tragic plague. But mysteriously enough, three survivors: a girl and two boys, emerged. Now living in a church, the three live in isolation, hidden from those who may seek to find them. Shino, one of the survivors, has control over the power of Murasame, the blade of life. But when the imperial church seeks to take the Murasame for themselves, their peaceful life becomes a thing of the past...
The anime is basen on the manga by Abe Miyuki, who is mostly a shounen-ai author. It shows - Hakkenden is filled with bishounens and very slashable. The animation is great, as is character design - the anime is really nice to watch.
The story is interesting, the plot unique. I can't tell what will happen and I'm very interested to find out.
As I know the Hakkenden manga, I'm unhappy about the choice of the main character's seiyuu. The boy is supposed to look feminine, enough to be taken for a pretty little girl (even when his hair is short), yet his voice is very boy-ish, very male (and Shino stopped aging at 13, looks 10-11 - had his voice broken yet?). Doesn't fit my image of Shino. But this is just my opinion. Perhaps Abe Miyuki wanted this character to have a boy-ish voice (to contrast with his looks?).
