Summary: The story begins with a flashback to Feudal Japan, when the half-demon InuYasha raids a human village to steal the Sacred Jewel of Four Souls, a magical jewel that enhances its wielder's powers and can grant a single wish. InuYasha hopes to use the gem to turn himself into a full-blooded demon, but is soon stopped when Kikyo, the young miko of the village, shoots him with a sacred arrow, sealing him onto the sacred tree Goshinboku in the nearby forest. Mortally wounded, Kikyo tells her younger sister, Kaede, to burn the jewel with her body to prevent it from falling into the hands of evil.Kagome emerges into a strange wilderness, initially unaware that she has traveled back through time to the Sengoku period of Japan, fifty years after Kikyo's death. Other than the Bone Eater's Well itself, the only familiar landmark is Goshinboku. She finds InuYasha still sealed onto the tree in an enchanted sleep, and a group of hostile peasants who drag her back to their village.

The first thing that will annoy anyone who watches this is the filler. This isn't unique to this series, as all anime is full of flashbacks and drawn-out scenes, but I would say this series is slightly worse than average.

The characters are consistent and believable, apart from the intended fantasy. Some may not be interested in that, but I find it to be a very important part of a good story. The character development in this series is top-notch - though that also has drawbacks as any character you may find annoying will continue to be consistently annoying throughout the entire series. To that end, the dialogue i rated as 'good' because, while no one says anything uncharacteristic for the purpose of furthering the plot, occasionally some characters say some stupid things because they are stupid characters.

Everything that happens seems to have a back-story that makes sense. The story is awesome right up until the end. I wont say the ending, but it is very anti-climactic. This alone isn't enough to downgrade a 'excellent' rating to a 'good' rating, but something else was amiss: the filler. There are actually two stories being told at the same time. There is the physically viewable story that anyone could tell you Inuyasha is about, but then there is also an emotional 'love-story' going on between the various characters. The physical story is great but could have been done at about 80 less episodes. The emotional story was okay, but overdone and repetitive - but then emotional stories aren't really my forte. If, however, you are into emotional stories or dramas, then this won't bother you and you will probably adore this story. I don't want to spell out what I'm insinuating, but this is totally an 'action chick flick.'

The animation i put as "average" just because it is, indeed, pretty much exactly like any other "hit" anime: in the early episodes the funding is low so the animation is kind of bad, in the latter episodes the funding is high so the animation is much improved.

And finally, it is an entertaining show - it has humor, action, drama, mystery... it's all good stuff.
