Summary: |
After the break up of their old band, guitarist Yuki & drummer Santa decide to form a new one. They recruit bass player Towa, young guitarist Atsuro, and after much persuasion, vocalist Sakuya. Together they form Lucifer and they struggle to make it in the music business, and also to stay together. As well, they have to deal with personal issues, such as parental objections, and watching their old bands succeed ahead of them. Sakuya is the most troubled band member, as he has to deal with his tragic past, and his relationship with teenaged lyricist Aine. |

After many (and I mean MANY) failed attempts of getting to this anime and watching these episodes I FINALLY have Kaikan Phrase. I heard about it when I was still a sixth grader. Only exposed to DragonBallZ and Saint Seiya I did not realise at the time that other anime like this existed. Now almost 15 years after the anime started airing on cable in our country I get to see it and enjoy every moment of it.
Contrary to what a previous review said about this anime - Kaikan Phrase is an adaptation of the manga of the same name but it is not based on any real events or characters, as a matter of fact the band Lucifer was developed for the very production of Kaikan Phrase and although they broke up in 2003, their songs are still awesome. The anime itself is a shojo / dorama that will leave most ladies breathless and that would make most male fans of anime scream foul, since most of the characters are practically too beautiful. The story centres around Ookochi Sakuya and the band that ultimately came to be known as Lucifer. Met with numerous challenges, from a jealous older brother to a vindictive ex-lover, this anime makes for some seriously entertaining watching. The theme of "getting big" and the dream of fame and music being realised, the story reproduced in this anime makes for an excellent narrative on life, love and passion for the things one never knew existed.
I would recommend this anime to any die hard rock music fan and shojo nut. It is certainly an excellent way to pass the time and the characterisation is brilliant. If you don't mind spiderwebs of scandal then give this one a watch.
PS - there are 44 episodes, I have been downloading from other sites besides this one for the last two days. Do yourself a favour and hunt these episodes down - You won't be sorry ;)
