Summary: Kimi ni Todoke is about a girl named Kuronuma Sawako. She is nicknamed Sadako (from the ring) because many people see her as strange and often mistake her for a ghost. A boy called Kazehaya kun becomes her friend and, to her, is "100% refreshness."errorsource
Kuronuma Sawako is nicknamed Sadako due to her resemblance to the girl from the Japanese horror movies "The Ring". Shunned by her classmates, her life starts to change as she befriends Shōta Kazehaya, a very popular boy in her class.
Kuronuma Sawako’s one wish in life is to make friends. That’s a difficult proposition when everyone who meets her cowers in terror. She admires her classmate, Kazehaya-kun, a popular, easygoing and 100% refreshing guy who is nice with everyone, even with her.

Usually i watch animes that are action or adventure like One Piece or Bleach but lately ive been reading alot of slice of life romances, well ecchi romances but still pure hearted ones like pastel and a town where you live. So when i saw this anime and how great of a review it got and that the manga was on the most read i was interested. What i got was one of the absolute purest, most white romances ive ever seen. The story is basically about a girl named sawako and her interactions as she opones up to new friends and experiences. Normally this wouldnt be any big deal cause alot of characters do that, the difference is sawako herself. If there was one character to call a pure white soul its her (and kurasama-senpai from asu no yoichi but hes a guy so its still ok). She always misunderstands things and is awkward but no matter wat she always does her best to help others and be kind. The other characters are also very likable yano-chan, chizu-chan, and especially kazehaya-kun, the main boy character and lov interest. The humor is well done if not a little anime-cheesy (think maid-sama but not as emphasized), and usually stems from sawako's pure hearted misunderstandings or one of the other characters personal quirks. However, one thing i must say is how well the story unfolds, throughout the anime i found myself falling in love with sawako (which isnt hard shes so white and amazing) and rooting for her as she gradually went through the stages of realizing freindship and love. The anime also does a good job with the other characters as well. One problem that often arises with romances is that the story will revolve soely arond the main couple and the other characters are simply brushed aside. This is not so with this series. The other characters are developed well (though not as much as the main of course) and there are even big times when thy're problems become the center of the show (heres looking at you chizu-chan). However even then the anime does an excellent job of relating things back to sawako and how she relates the situation to her feelings and grownth, yet not in any way that makes her selfish (the VERY last thing she is). The animation is decent enough but expect alot of slice of life style gestures and things (lot of chibi sawako times, which was a bit much at first but i got used to it). However, the best thing about the anime is the atmosphere it creates. Now, i wont lie, the most important thing to me in an anime is the pure hearts of the characters and times when they help others. Action is nice, story is very important, but that will always be the core of why i watch aime as opposed to say normal media. Because in life thats wat truely matters (im a Christian btw), and when alot of the romance slice of life stuff on tv is like degrassi or secret life or something where there is backstabbing and selfishness that just doesnt appeal to me. But this series was special, even to normal anime purehearted-ness. I lov pure hearts, but even i was taken aback by how amazing sawako was, it was even a little hard to watych cause it was SO pure. But throughout the anime and at the end, it was wat made it shine so bright. Overall this was an amazing anime with pure hearts all around and a wonderful atmosphere that helped me relax and enjoy life. The only thing i hav a beef with is that it ends on a kind of cliffhanger, but thewres a second season so not a problem really. I'll tell you one thing the two main characters i was rooting for to get together as much as i do inoue and ichigo from bleach (a thing im very passionate about btw). So if u want a pure hearted romance with a great up-lifting atmosphere and fun characters who make you smile, Kimi ni Todoke is deffinately an anime for you!
