Summary: "The year is 1889." The world is entering a new age where science is changing forever and where knowledge becomes a very dangerous tool when it falls into the wrong hands. Amid the chaos of war, Nadia, a young circus performer, yearns to find the place where she was born. For as long as she can remember, she has been on her own. The only link she has to her dark past is a mysterious blue crystal she wears around her neck. When a group of jewel thieves attempt to steal her Blue Water, she is rescued by a young but ambitious French inventor named Jean. Together, they attempt to escape Nadia's pursuers, and through a series of odd adventures involving airplanes, war-ships and sea monsters, they find themselves aboard the amazing submarine, Nautilus. Jean and Nadia soon learn of an evil organization called Neo-Atlantis, headed by the masked Gargoyle and their plot to use the Blue Water to build their Neo-Atlantian Empire. What is the secret of Blue Water, who are the original Atlantians, and who is the mysterious captain of the Nautilus who goes by the name of Nemo?
The character design and the creative concept for this steampunk anime originated with master animator Hayao Miyazaki and it is based on the novel 20,000 Leagues Under the Sea.
