The story takes place in the ideal city "NO.6" in 2013. Shion was judged as having "highest-ranked intelligence" when he was two years old and was allowed to live in the luxurious area "Cronos".
On his twelfth birthday, he met a beautiful boy called "Nezumi," who had escaped from a reformatory. Shion protected him, but the Public Security Bureau deprived Shion of all his privileges and expelled him from Cronos to "Lost Town".
Four years after the banishment, a mysterious accident leads Shion to the secret of the city NO.6. From that moment on, Shion's life is changed forever... |

To be really honest, this anime contains many comments about life. The main characters bring us across a journey of life, as one explores what they have never thought before. The fragmentation of the society into social classes of elite and the so called worthless it very much critical of our own society. To which made me think : "so if we continue to let the educated be more educated, the rich more wealthy, then what about the other civilians of our society??" This anime does confront us with social and political issues. It, to some extent also questions about the honesty of authoritative figures, are they really doing what they are saying? are they really fixing the problems or are they just lying about fixing them, or even denying that these problems exist? To be completely honest, i think most people know the answer. This anime allows us to question about the intentions of the government and revealing the corruption that governmental institutions hide from us, Making us think, or in the anime, rather, FORCING us to believe/think that we are living in utopia, but actually we're living in a decorated and artificial world.
However, despite all the negativity that this anime allows us to question and explore, it does guide us to see the tint of light in the darkness. The fact that one of the protagonist is saved by the other, highlights to us that maybe there is something that we could hope for in such a corrupted and disrupted world. This world governed by science and technology, intellect and reasoning, is ruined, rotten and a land full of lies and darkness; but never give up on hope, because at times where you have given up, you will discover a reason in this world not to.
So, trying extremely hard not to spill out too much, if you happen to read this review up to here, please to watch this, it is one of the best anime.
