I think it makes no sense telling you to watch this anime because it takes a long time to get to the point where it becomes truly amazing. I personally started loving this manga when I came to the point where the starhats meet Arlong and were fighting the tyranny on this island. Its around episode 40 and is probably the first time where you get to see where this anime is going.
One Piece starts as a simple and easy to understand Advanture until a certain point.
One Piece has a incredibly complex and deep storyline but it only starts extending later on. But One Piece is probabyl the only shonen anime that still is consistent in its storytelling and isnt ruining itself with questionable plottwists.
But even though i am kind of a fan of one piece (Look at my username) xD, I must say the anime is very overrated. It is definately good and didnt disapoint me much except for 1 arc but its really being hyped everywhere in japan and thats one reason why people start hating on it and come up with wrong facts just to make it look bad. People hate mainstream thats why the i-phone is so hated everywhere :3
To be honest...I dont enjoy one piece as much as I did back in the days. There are several reasons. The biggest reason is that many things changed and some of my favorite characters just look retarded now :S But that is only a personal complaint of me.
As I said dont forget that one piece has 545+ episodes and you need a lot of time to invest if you want to watch it. But it is worth it. The story will never disapoint you and the fights are definately good, unpredictable and MANLY :3
One peoblemk on the other hand is the artwork/art style. I personally love this weird art but many people might think it is childish. Thats one thing you will have to get used to.
One piece does not have massive amounts of fillers but thats because a weekly manga chapter of one piece has twice as much content as naruto for example. Also they drag out fights and dialugues to not get into filler arcs. Also some of the filler arcs are actually better than some cannon arcs.
But If you hate fillers and just want to watch cannon than here is a guide for you
As I said most one piece fillers are good. I dont really recomend you to skip them all.
But you should skip the huge review episode row before the enies lobby arc (279 - 283)
