Let me begin by saying that this is a more realistic kind of shoujo anime, the kind which comes along once in a while, the kind that is able to charm the audience with it's quaint, elegantly presented quality despite utilisation a very unextraordinary setting.

That said, this anime is a romance (hence the title). So some of you may turn up your nose at the thought of another cheap, cliche, anime with a stagnant plotline. True, this is the seemingly typical anime with the typical plotline of the popular boy getting together with the invisible girl, but let me tell you that being non-cliche is not what makes an anime good. The story (in the first episode anyway) is so nicely set up, and the viewer just slides into the world of the anime easily. The characters are adorable: the female lead is neither stuck-up annoying, or over-submissive, excessively stubborn or shy: even though she comes accross as quiet, you can see the underlying attitude she has. The male lead is lovable-you can see why he's popular: he's not stuck up, arrogant, or overconfident (even though he's a bishie and has a nice-very nice at that- face).

The art for this anime is pretty good. It's the anime where the mangaka can draw good looking male and female characters. Don't judge an anime by the poster thing next to the summary: the art looks bad there, but let me tell you that the characters are wonderfully well-drawn.

The animation isn't something that this world hasn't seen before, but it isn't something to be banished to the depths of hell either. It's above average-to me anyway. There isn't anything wrong with it.

In conclusion, the first episode really leaves most, if not all of those suckers for romance like me satisfied. It's real cute. If you liked Kimi Ni Todoke, i would recommend this anime especially to you as it has a similar quality of making an ordinary place (high school) an extraordinary anime.
