On planet Amoi, a great society has developed, creating a computerized city called Tanagura, ruled by supercomputer Jupiter. The populace is almost entirely male and is based on hair color; silver and/or blonds are the elitist, ending with dark/black haired as the bottom of society, often known as "mongrels". Blondies keep "pets", young boys kept for a few years, especially made for performing sexual actions for the Blondie's voyeurism entertainment. Blondies aren't suppose to keep pets for long or interact sexually with pets, but one blondie named Iason Mink has kept a pet named Rikki, for years and is rumored to sleep with him. Iason refuses to let go of Rikki, even with Jupiter's disapproval. Rikki fights with his emotions and society problems, unable to decide what to do about his old friend/lover Gai (Guy) and their gang. Iason is obsessed with keeping Rikki, and Rikki doesn't know what to do; fight against him or surrender to him. |

Classic yaoi... a bit outdated but still awesome characters, and the story has some pretty deep psychological undertones. The newer version's with some more detail, though it doesn't look like it's going to be completed anytime soon... so it pays to watch both if you're interested ^_^

a great story and characters with such a sad ending.. the animation is good for it's era but in this days it's a bit outdated...
the new OVA has a lot better animation, and it covers different parts of the story too... I'd reccommend to watch both :)
And yes it's a Yaoi, so if you don't like that don't watch it

I don't mind this version of AnK, but believe that the people who remade it could have done better. I expected the old version to be a bit lower quality because of the time period it was made in, but am a bit disappointed that pretty much all they have done is change the visual appearance of the characters/area which wasn't really necessary.
However, I did like the voice actors, script and most of the other factors. My only real issue was comparison between the two :'3

Yaoi with dystopian-feely background and focus on a pretty sadistic romance. The relationship between the main characters is well portrayed, but the background had alot more potential (conflict-laden themes such as corruption, power abuse, or Stockholm syndrome are shown, to name only three topics barely grazed). Still hoping the remake gets longer.... (*sighs*)

One of the oldest tales in this genre, “Ai no Kusabi” is rather deep as far as yaoi goes, showing a sadistic romance and the cruel side of forced love. The background story is well-set, dealing with interesting issues such as power abuse, corruption, Stockholm syndrome and the like; also, it’s a sci-fi/dystopia – not an all that realistic once but nonetheless undeniably my cup of tea :P

As the anime’s only two hours long however, it is highly fast-paced and to me felt quite rushed as the background topics are barely grazed. The whole anime focuses on the sex/love relationship; sure, this one is well set, gets well wrapped up in the end, and is interesting as far as the genre goes; still, to me, too much background potential seemed to be left untouched. Can only hope the 2012 adaption surpasses that one (heard it’s supposed to run for 11 eps, but I’m not sure).
The characters are unique… and all male. Fodder to the imagination of all yaoi fans. :P Personally, I would’ve appreciated a woman at least as a side character, but no changing that, I guess. (Female feminist => I appreciate bishounen but if it’s only men taking up the spotlight, I get annoyed. *lol*)
The dialogue’s well done overall, not a pain in the ears but not really special.
For an anime of two hours, there’s lots of action/violence in here, but oh well… it’s old, and the animation truly isn’t today’s level.
Probably still good for any yaoi/dystopia lover who doesn’t mind the animation (>.>) but personally, I found this anime far too crammed in as I expected more of a spotlight on the mentioned background themes. This anime has more potential than it shows. Keeping my hopes up the 2012 release surpasses this one! ( show less)

it is great . it is toooooo old and its animation is not good .i think it is some how like "okane ga nai " but much more better
plz if you like bl anime watch it
and those how dont ,plz watch it it is great
you wony be sorry . actually some parts will make you hate it but if you look at it from out side you will love it
