Summary: Kurosaki Ichigo is a 15 year old boy that has an ability to see ghosts/spirits. Because of his ability, he is able to meet a female death god (a.k.a Shinigami) named Kuchiki Rukia. To save his family and friends from unwanted soul-eating spirits (Hollows), Rukia transfers her Shinigami powers to Ichigo. As Rukia takes on a human shell, together they solve mysteries involving spirits and hollows until from the spirit world comes 2 other shinigamis explaining that it is illegal to transfer Shinigami powers to humans and Rukia exceeded the time limit to stay in the human world. After they sentence her death for breaking the laws, Ichigo snaps and swears to everyone he will retrieve Rukia by breaking into the spirit world.

It is hard to credit an anime that went on for more than 300 episodes, but I'm going to try:

To sum it up: If you seek an anime that has a surprising and passionate plot, watch bleach. If you seek an anime that is allotted with a huge variety of extremely interesting characters and want to see something really amazing on your screen then watch bleach. If you are unable to get accustomed to gnawing your nails because the new arc, again, was interrupted by fillers you should stick to something like code geass. (Please read on...^^)

First of all the animation. I think it is great, not just the various settings that are drawn really nice and compelling, the characters are drawn out just as believable and passionate. But the most beautiful art surfaces in the battles: They are original as well as artistic, at least some of the bankai are.

The Dialogues are solid, if not ingenious. They are neither long winded nor shortened too much. Sometimes they are hilarious, sometimes sad, or at least they are able to provoke these emotions wich is the reason why I think them "good" if not "excellent".

Furthermore these dialogues give the characters room to express themselves. That might sound strange, but the animation in hand with the dialogues really creates some extremely interesting characters. There is a huge variety of them. Especially the villains in this anime are great! They have reasons, quite often pretty surprising ones, for what they intend to do. But more than that they aren't just brutes that dash around and brag about their physical superiority, they do have plans which sadly is not always the case in other anime.

Wich leads me to the next point: The plot. Obviously you can't follow just one plot straight ahead over more than 300 episodes, so bleach could be separated in "arcs". Some of them are not as interesting as others, in my opinion nothing can compare with the main arc up until 310. However, all these arcs have something in common: You can't see straight through them from the beginning, which is refreshing. Even if you got the main antagonist tangled out you can be sure to be surprised by his actions or those of his companions. Which is great, too.

Unfortunately those interesting and amazingly well drawn action arcs that make you want to cheer Ichigo on(or his enemies?) are interrupted time and time again by "fillers". We all dread them. Right in front of the great epic clash that is going to solve the story of an arc there are suddenly up to 20 episodes that don't have to do anthing with the story beforehand... There is even such a thing as a filler-arc I would say... A lot of people are moaning about these filers, me included. Yeah they are hilarious, yeah they sometimes give a deeper perspective to characters otherwise drawn too shallowly, however usually they are just annoying because you want to follow the story further on.

But that's just the point. These fillers are some kind of breath taking before the jump. And I have to admit that when the jump finally comes onto you it is even more sweet.(That's how I feel) However you should be prepared to either wait some time, be patient and accept those hilarious but otherwise unnecessary sidestories, or skip part of the anime.
