First of all I feel like I should point out that I am a huge fan of both the Blood franchise as well as CLAMP. I just thought that I point that out. I been a fan of CLAMPs works for a long time and have been in love with the Blood franchise for many years. However, this series was a disappointment to me coming from both aspects.
I feel like this series would have been better off as a stand alone original series by CLAMP rather than a part of the Blood franchise. The feeling of this series was different than Blood the Last Vampire or Blood+. ( read more)

I feel like this series would have been better off as a stand alone original series by CLAMP rather than a part of the Blood franchise. The feeling of this series was different than Blood the Last Vampire or Blood+. (I'm excluding the movie and am only mentioning the animated part of the franchise. Though I have seen that too.) I almost couldn't point out any similarities between the three.
There is plot however it is very slow. Blood+ plot line was slow at first however it picked up after a while. The plot is very slow so if you're looking for a fast pace series this may not be for you. Each episode is pretty much the same even though it does get a bit drastic later on. With all of the events that goes on around, Saya as a character does not seem grow at all. I can not elaborate without giving away spoilers and I do not give away spoilers in my reviews.
Another thing that irritates me about this series is CLAMP decided to make it yet another cross over. I can understand if it was one of their completely original series not based off of another franchise maybe, but another cross over? This series does cross over into the series XXXHolic or rather XXXHolic cross over into this series. If you have not seen xxxHolic the idea may not bother you but the cross over business is beginning to become over done.
CLAMP's drawing style is obvious in the characters and in the scenery as well. There was one too many times during the series when I saw CLAMP's previous characters in Blood-C.
This series could have had potential if CLAMP did not have their hand in it. Character development is almost non-existent and the story line is slow. If you are looking for a fast moving series and if you enjoyed Blood+, this series may not be for you. ( show less)

Blood-C is a reimagining of the Blood franchise. The franchise is about a high school girl named Saya that has abilities and she fights monsters that feed on humans. Originally it was an animated movie called Blood: The Last Vampire. It was set on an American Army base during the Vietnam war. It was a decent movie. Then came an excellent 50 episode anime series that was a sequel to the original movie and takes place in modern times. Then last year they made a very good live action movie of the Blood: The last vampire movie and it was set on an american ( read more)

That brings us to the new series called Blood-C. I was so looking forward to this series and never in all my years of anime watching have I been so disapointed. It had a cast of likeable characters and yet there was no plot development for most of the series. The 1st 7-8 episodes consisted of Saya at school with friends like the show was a slice of life comedy series and then in the last few minutes of the episode they would throw in a gory battle scene (I guess to remind us we were watching Blood).
The last 4 episodes of the series explained what was going on but we were left with huge holes in the plot, no punishment for the main villian and a very unsatisfying conclusion. I was so mad I wanted to put my foot thru my monitor. For those of us that sat thru the series to the end it was like being really hungry and ordering pizza and when it gets delivered the box was empty. ( show less)

There aren't many episodes released, so I can't say for certain. But as far as story goes, this series has all the makings of an decent one. However, this judgement is not on the released material, but rather a reflection on the Blood franchise - which is known for Saya, psycho vampires, and a government conspiracy. While it is clear in the first episode that BloodC has all the potential to make a decent addition to the franchise (blood, gore, ignorant girl), for me it just doesn't ( read more)

While it is clear in the first episode that BloodC has all the potential to make a decent addition to the franchise (blood, gore, ignorant girl), for me it just doesn't live up to the past.
One reason for this is the opening concept. In Blood+, Saya was an ignorant an clumsy girl who was thrown, BAAM, into a psycho world and forced to adapt. BloodC seems to have adapted this initial formula, but modified it a bit. It is this modification I have a problem with. In BloodC, NewSaya is very dual-faced and dual-natured. She seems genuinely clumsy and overly kind, but then shows a very skilled and serious side. Normally when they do this in anime they pass it off as either the kind/generous side is: being faked for a cover or the serious person has an aspect of good-moral-character. In BloodC this does not happen. One minute she's sugar, and the next moment she's spice. These two aspects of NewSaya are messily clumped together, and these attributes seem to contradict themselves to the point of ridiculousness. It doesn't make sense. And if they tried to explain it later on in the series, it would just be awkward sounding.
Dialogue, I'm not going to say much, but it is pretty average, and the current story just makes it seem kind of stupid and pointless.
Animation. The animation very top notch by anyones's standards. It clearly isn't newbie stuff. However, the character designs are awful. Terrible. A main detractor from the show. Seriously. Most characters are Clamp's design, which really do not go well IMO with the serious tone the Blood franchise has been building. With the exception of the 'father', all the characters' features are too soft and silly for the show's nature. It is almost like watching a perversion of Card Captor Sakura. Somehow the animators manage to make some of the fight scenes pretty badass looking, but it is hard. Especially with NewSaya's hair. It is ridiculous, huge, and in no way fitting of the show. If she's going to be fighting weird demon-things at night the girl needs to cut her hair before someone grabs it and uses it as leverage in a fight. Basically, the character design should have been been done by someone other than clamp. I nominate Kouta Hirano for the job. <--I mean, his resume makes him perfect for the job.
Entertainment. I was not entertained. Even with the fight scene, I was just wishing it was over. I just couldn't get into it. I'll come back in 7 episodes though, and check again, but I'm pretty sure I'll just be disappointed.
Overall: give it a chance. Who knows, you may like it. You can never be sure unless you go in watching it with an open mind and judge for yourself. ( show less)
