Yes. Call me a band wagon newb for thinking that this anime is probably one of the best ever but you cannot deny that this anime is extremely addictive and will leave lasting memories. I haven't read the manga version since I was too lazy to download all of the chapters, however most people i know have told me the manga version is better and since i had also heard that the anime has remained faithful to the manga version (up until the last episode) it can't have been that much better. The plot is really simple - A notebook belonging to a death god finds its way the earth and if someone's name is written in the book that someone will die. Haha boring... next.... stop right there, the plot thickens. The first half of the anime centers around the battle between two geniuses who compete against each other with their logic and deductive reasoning to find out the identity of another. One of the geniuses murders people using the death note and the other genius is a super detective working with the Japanese police. The thing that makes this anime intriguing is the main character, Light. Light is the villain in this story and he is also doing what he thinks is right. It sparks the whole debate on what is right. If you have taken any ethics class you can naturally reason that Light has the classic Utilitarian perspective. He will kill 5 people if it will save 6. If he can eliminate a world of crime, future murder would cease or minimize so in his mind it is worth to kill hundreds and thousand of people for the cause.
Story - 5 (Very addictive)
Dialogue - 5 (alot of the dialogue is either the main character or L's thoughts and plans. As you follow what there plans are, suspense will build up)
Animation - 4
Entertainment - 5
