Based on the series of Devil May Cry games made by Capcom, the anime has an original storyline that uses the characters from the game. When I watched it, it was the first anime I came across that had so much blood because I was always watching the usual shonen genres. I thought to myself,"Great! Finally I get to see some real action, not just endless beating with only scratches." In DMC, blood pretty much squirts like a fountain and I thought it was pure ecstasy. It is pretty violent after all, befitting of the series. I do not recommend this ( read more)

Each episode is a devil slaying adventure. It's very refreshing to watch and it ties nicely to an overarching plot line. In addition to Dante, Lady, and Trish from the game (and perhaps more characters since I'm not too familiar with the game), the anime includes an original character, Patty. Patty is a little girl probably the age of 12 or something like that and she appears at the Devil May Cry agency frequently acting as a maid-like character. Her character becomes more significant towards the end of the series because she holds a special key. Dante and company I assume are faithful to the previous renditions in the game. Dante is cocky at times but is pretty laid back if you ask me. He's very competent and has a very stylish wardrobe. In the anime, Dante really likes strawberry sundaes which really contrasts all that fighting he does against the devils.
I thoroughly enjoyed the soundtrack and pretty much hunted down for it because I like the opening theme of DMC so much. It has a lot of metal and orchestral elements that mirror the intense fighting and supernatural elements in the series. It is very action packed and the pacing is very fast. Even though it was my first bloody series, watching it a second time kind of lost its magic. ( show less)

I have watched all of the episodes, decent story & there is nothing really new since he does the same thing in every episode where he is paid to slay demons in very episode.
Dante here is more serious then his video game counterpart where is more cocky & likes to chuckle a lot.
He is still cool, don't get me wrong, I like Dante & the character he is & still badass as we all know.
I just only wish they had more to it but all & all its still a more than a decent anime since the action scenes are very entertaining which makes up for the story which ( read more)

I'll give this 3/5 & if you haven't seen this but played the DMC games, you have to watch this by all means ( show less)

I love the Devil May Cry (DMC) series. It basically invented the Hack n' Slash genre and innovated when many gamers were tired of slow horror games like Resident Evil. So when I found out an anime based on some of the best action games in history was released I had to check it out.

I love the Devil May Cry (DMC) series. It basically invented the Hack n' Slash genre and innovated when many gamers were tired of slow horror games like Resident Evil. So when I found out an anime based on some of the best action games in history was released I had to check it out.
Story:
The anime follows the exploits of Dante, the half-demon half-human son of Legendary Dark Knight Sparda. Unlike the games, the anime follows his every day work that is being a bounty hunter specializing in demons. Although Dante comes off as a relatively simple character, he sticks to his own morals and is interesting to watch, although he doesn't develop much, since this anime is set after the first DMC game, which is where most of his character development occurs. But there is some paternalism to him this time, which I interpret as him trying to resolve his relationship with his father. The anime depicts Dante killing Demons and a character named Sid who tends to plot in the background. The last two episodes seem to be the worst, as they are much too dramatic for the series, which has always taken its plot lightly. It seems to be common in the DMC series for any plot that doesn't revolve around Sparda to be below-average. The few episodes that do involve Sparda are great, and if the whole anime was based around this plot, I would definitely rate this higher.
Dialogue
Let me say this: watch the dub. The Japanese voice actor didn't seem to know his character, and so passes Dante off as somewhat of an emo figure; he seems to hate things and brood. The dub, in contrast, is very similar to the games in that they pass Dante off as not hating things and brooding, but just being bored. Don't let the white hair and red trench coat fool you, Dante is in no way an emo character, he is a smart-ass, trash talking, immature demon hunter who owes money to everyone he knows and likes to eat pizza (and strawberry sundaes apparently) while gambling what little money he has left away. The dialogue in the dub is much better, in that it shows a much more laid-back element of the characters, something that they are, not the generic mean girl and slut portrayed in the Japanese version. Truly, it seems like the English voice actors really studied up on their characters, whereas the Japanese voice actors did not, although this doesn't stop the English oice actor of Lady from sounding horribly bored.
Animation:
The animation is top notch, as one would expect from such an action packed anime. The animation depicts the brutality of the games while remaining heavily stylized like the games. Watching Dante fight feels like he's trying to max out his style meter (haha, gaming jokes) and shows how carefree the character is. The animation is great, and the demons are truly monstrous, much more so than their video game counter parts, which actually makes them somewhat scary.
Entertainment:
What you get out of DMC really depends on if you like Dante. As a gamer, I’ve followed him long enough to enjoy watching the action instead of playing. But I know that some people might find him annoying. Some people may find the combat too laid back. Honestly, if you aren’t a DMC fan, this is a very average anime. However, since I am a DMC fan, I enjoyed this show immensely, and would recommend it to any gamer eager to watch Dante’s exploits. ( show less)

It is a good anime if your not going in expecting it to be like the game. If you are looking for the dante from DMC 3 or even 4 then you will be disappointed. other than that though a quick little anime that deserves a few hours of time.

Well, this series isn't much other than a good and entertaining Anime. I mean, it has good animation, very entertaining, but a not so good story. It probably just has too much cliche in it, where in the end, no matter how dead the main character may seem, he will always win. And the other problem with the story is just that it only seems to begin at the last 5-6 eps or so. Anything before that seems like random OVA's, where he must find a demon and kill it, with an okay-to-good to a sometimes cheesy story going on whilst that happens. But this series ( read more)

So, yeah, if you want a really good plot with deep characters, this series is not for you. Want a fun, entertaining anime about demon killing? Watch this. ( show less)

I had heard so many good things about the game and I thought I have to watch this anime. Dante has got to be one my favorite characters to date. but I have to say they completely messed this one up! It's way too short and the story doesn't really go anywhere. Just when you feel like something major is going to happen or like you're going to hear more about Dante's past, they switch over to another story-line. There are many hints about some kind of secret Dante has or some dark ppast, but it is never revealed and is ignored until the end.

This could have been one kick-ass anime. The characters are awsome and the animation is very well done. Such a shame. ( show less)

If you're after a short show to tie you over in between deciding what to watch next, Devil May Cry is a great choice. You don't have to be a fan of the games to appreciate the story. It's all action. All seperate stories and a whole lot of fun. So if you want to see some awesome people kicking ass, to storylines that are pretty well thought out and want a few laughs, this is a nice way to kill some time.
Give it a try ^^

In the whole, this is a fun anime to watch. The characters are fun, especially the leading man *drools*. But the story is very frustrating in that it does not answer your questions and you feel like it's not really going anywhere. There was so much potential here. A demon hunter who has a shady past. I mean, it's a good plot! And yet, we never get to see his past or understand exactly who he is.
However, the animation is great and the theme music is incredible. Though if you're looking for a really good series, you probably won't be satisfied ( read more)
