Based on the light novel this anime is of course an adaptation. Though it is one of my favourites in comedy, action, fantasy and magic I must say it had its confusing moments towards the end.
The length of the series provided time for character development and also enough time for the complex personalities and histories to interlink. However the ending of this anime gives the feeling of a second season with the end being only the beginning of a new arc and possibly the last arc. This made it seem as if they didn't have enough episodes to successfully ( read more)

However the ending of this anime gives the feeling of a second season with the end being only the beginning of a new arc and possibly the last arc. This made it seem as if they didn't have enough episodes to successfully "end" the story leaving it ambiguous with a huge open ended ending that leaves the audience wanting more.
Besides that I loved the action in this. The slap stick comedy played out between Ferris and Ryner and the constant joke about Ferris's obsession with dango lightened the darkness this anime contains. Towards the end the dark parts of the anime begin to become more apparent being only subtle at the start. By the end the comedy is almost completely erased until that about episode 23 where it is almost entirely comedy where most of the relationships between the characters are confirmed (romance wise that is).
In terms of voices Japanese is probably better as it suits the characters more than the English voices. This is a little biased seeing as two of my favourite Japanese voices actors are in it (Daisuke Ono and Jun Fukuyama).
The animation isn't anything notable landing in the borderline area of animation being not great and not bad either. There are a few scenes that are hard to make out due to the lack of lighting.
Also referring back to my comment about it being confusing; towards the end they started to introduce something new around the second or third last episode without clearly explaining too much about it. They also introduced a few new characters at the end which did raise some eyebrows in question to their purpose. Other characters also drop out of the storyline which was annoying (including that one character they don't even say whether he lives or dies)
Its an anime I suggest to those into the action, fantasy or magic genre. There is some romance though it is very small and shows up only briefly. Slapstick comedy is also littered within it. However note that it takes a dark turn at the end, it gets a bit confusing near the finish and doesn't have a very satisfying ending being open ended hinting at a second season (a bit doubtful though). If you enjoyed the anime there's also the original work, light novels, and another adaptation in the form of manga. ( show less)

Legend of of Legendary Heroes could have been a great anime series the problem is that it tried to fit to many scenarios into just 24 episode which results in a not so favorable ending! The fact that it has two story, one with Sion Astal dealing with the political side while the 2nd story revolves around his best friend Ryner's quest to recover Legendary Relic, already made it hard to create a solid plot due to the constant shift from one character to the next. Also due to the wide array of characters it's a shame we could get enough character development since most of them have quite an interesting backgrounds as well as personalities instead we only get bits and pieces of each of them. Aside from characters there are also some great concepts like "Rule Fragments", "Goddesses", "Mad Hero", "Lonely Demon" etc.. which were quite interesting but was given enough explanation making them more than just terms rather than an integral part of the story which they are. Despite these flaws i find the series enjoyable to watch and very interesting. The blend between Sions' story and Ryner's quest is just enough to balance the story providing both the serious and comedic tone making each episode entertaining. Sion's constant struggle to retain his throne while trying to keep his sanity in check & Ryner's crazy antics & lazy attitude to cover his uncontrollable powers and the way these two finally come to terms with their friendship at the end is well played. Again, this could have been a great series if it was given a few more episode instead of just 24! ( show less)

The story is good, different in comparison to some of the other adventurous hero anime. Character personality and dialogue, just awesome. I especially like the heroine that joins the hero in looking for "treasure". Their relationship is like a brother/sister/cousins, always picking on each other, getting on each other's nerves, but at the same time, go to great lengths to help each other as well as other individuals. Comedy factor is a 10/10 in my book. Relationships make it more humorous as well as draws your curiosity. All in all, this is a good ( read more)

Only downside is that the quality from episode 10 and up (somewhere around there are not that great). ( show less)
