It's a bit slow at first and I actually planned to drop it "soon, just let's see the next episode", but in the end I didn't - how glad I am! It seems many dislike the 8th episode (yaoi/yuri) but for me this is when things get super interesting. The characters turn 14 (12 was too young for me, I don't like series about children - can't relate at all, + I don't even like children), the introduction to the world of Shinsekai Yori is mostly done - the series no longer is confusing. I also liked the fact that homosexual relationships are shown as something widely accepted, natural (at that age even more common that heterosexual relationships? - I think it makes sense; when you're 14 it's easier to get close to a friend of the same gender and experiment with them, in Shinsekai Yori no-one will judge you for it)

I think the authors of this series are brillant - the world they created, the plot. It's clear that a lot of thought was put into the series, it's very unique and free of cliches. The emotion I feel when watching it... I no longer watch the episodes at night because then I can't sleep ;) It's all very exciting, sometimes heart-breaking (I did cry quite a few times). Shinsekai Yori is a fascinating take on dystopian fiction, The series appears to be inspires by Aldous Huxley's Brave New World, right down to the title. However, Shinsekai Yori also presents its viewers with moral dilemma: is it right for a government control or even kill its own citizens in order to protect the other citizens? Without giving too much anyway, Shinsekai Yori shows one possible way in which society might handle the sudden manifestation of psychic powers. At times, the series is outright disturbing in the way it portrays human nature. The animation is inconsistent at some points, but overall has excellent art. If you want something to make you think, you should definitely consider watching Shinsekai Yori. (show less)

When I first watched this show I had some expectations, mainly based off my first episode impressions, but soon after that I have no expectations at all. Shin sekai Yori is the most unique anime I watched to date. Granted the show has a lot of explaining to do, so if you're not into heavy dialogue anime then I wouldn't recommend this to you. However, once you get through most of the explanation, I would say around episode 9 or 10, once you get that understanding for what their world is really about and the mystery behind it, that is when the show really starts to shine. The only downside to this that I have found is that sometimes the animation quality is lacking and looks really simple. I find that since the animation studio behind this is A-1, I figured that they spent most of their time doing SAO. So hopefully now that SAO has finished we can see an increase in production values in the show :) (show less)
