To the south of Japan, there lies a lush green island called Southern Cross Isle. One night, a boy by the name of Takuto Tsunashi washes up on the shore of the island alone. Having swum from the mainland alone and without any possessions, this boy enrolls in the senior high level in the school on the island - Southern Cross High School.
With his bright and positive personality, he starts to mix with various students in the school and builds relationships with many of them, including Wako Agemaki and Sugata Shindou. But this school hides a deep secret. There are sleeping giants hidden under the ground called "Cybuddies".
There are about 20 of these giants, and they are just some of the various secrets kept by everyone on the island: The secret movements of the mysterious organization known as "Kirahoshi Juujidan". The songs of the shrine maidens. And even Takuto himself will soon come to embrace a great secret...
This island in the southern territories surrounded by the blue sea and the blue skies is the stage where the "Eulogy of Youth" filled with love, dreams and friendships, will begin. |

I first saw this anime when I went on a trip to Japan and was reeled in with the ending song that I always seemed to catch the end of. So finally I watched it and found it pretty good.
I won't say its the greatest anime. Action wise yes it is great the main character is athletic, drawn in a way that may lure in the female audience and has a pretty stereotypical bright personality. Story wise its a bit boring. Its got mecha fights, school life, comedy and romance (not a lot being a male targeted anime) but the mecha moments will seem a bit repetitive. ( read more)

For anyone whose seen the Pokemon series it is structured in a similar episode structure. Bad guy appears, main character and bad guy gets into mecha (not part of pokemon but you get the point), fights, main character wins, the episode ends.
The comedy provides a bright and refreshing uniqueness to the anime as do the style of mechas. Though one of the good things of this anime is its ability to keep the comedy within every episode. And the colour fit this sort of anime of light hearted comedy.
Dialogue is a bit repetitive whenever the mecha moments are concerned. The mecha moments will have a song sung by one of the four maiden characters. Its good because the music's nice however like I've said it constant appearance does pull down the entertainment and did make me skip through the bits.
All in all its a good anime if you're planning to watch it over a long period of time (which you probably won't). If you're into mecha fights, well drawn characters, bright comedy or repetitive episodes then by all means watch it. However if you're not into the cliches and repetition (seems like I'm doing a lot of that too sorry) then I suggest you try another anime. ( show less)

*The show has various different characters that each has their own flair to them. What i enjoy about them is that they all have a lot of energy, which would be expected given the High School setting. For those looking for a darker moodier series, it might be a good idea to steer away from this one.
*Its thanks to the quality of drawing and animation that compliments the jumpy and colorful characters, its very hard to not grow to like them as you continue to watch the series. The combat sequences are beautifully drawn and and is always actively ( read more)

*Its thanks to the quality of drawing and animation that compliments the jumpy and colorful characters, its very hard to not grow to like them as you continue to watch the series. The combat sequences are beautifully drawn and and is always actively in full motion (thankfully no stills) and with a combination of clear visuals (HD version) and colorful settings it makes for some very nice eye candy.
* As you go into the show you meet new people that play their part in the story. The enemies themselves don't feel quite as bad as you would think as they develop an interest in Takuto (the story's main character) but still show how relentless they can be in achieving their goal. The overall plot for the story seems a bit average at best, but the the well developed characters and quality animation really make up for this in my opinion.
- At times the show can get a little redundant with a lack of progression in story because of various side episodes. I also feel that every episode has to end with an inevitable mech battle with an enemy that gets the most airtime for each episode. Granted i do enjoy the animation and the cool transformations and all it gets a bit repetitive to see the same final attack and the same transformation for 20+ episodes. It doesn't harm the show completely but its something to keep in mind for whoever is concerned about it.
* I personally love the Sound Track for the series its simply the best i've heard in awhile, I listen to it at times on my free time. Naturally one con would be the fact that it overplays the same thing for a good 6 or 7 episodes at a time until a new maiden takes the stage(you will see what i mean if you watch it) but because i personally enjoyed the music i had no problem forgiving this.
- Finally, i wouldn't call this a major Con, but the robot itself that Takuto uses may seem a little feminine to certain male anime fans. I myself didn't mind the design of the mecha but to others i know it might be a problem. So a heads up to you guys if you don't mind a skinny mecha that has a woman-like postures, then you may get turned off by this series at first glance of it.
Overall i feel that Star Driver is a great show and deserves your attention if your a fan of Mecha and High School Life, with a quality soundtrack and awesome animation/ battle sequences i cant help but to recommend this series. ( show less)

I was really unsure with this anime too begin with and only started watching it when a friend told me about it. Yet after 4 episodes im finding myself wanting to come back to it each and every week. It may seem kiddy and outrageous, and the robot is different i might add, yet there is something about the show that just keeps you entertained.
only being 4 episodes in the story isnt in full swing yet, but it is developing. the characters are all fairly unique and some of the relationships that are blossoming so far are ones that people can relate ( read more)

The animation is superb, im really enjoying that aspect of the show and character design is quite similar to that of code geass in my eyes.
That being said, if your looking for an anime that can set out to entertain, dont look past star driver, it appeals to the child in all of us and has some cool robot bashing along the way :D
Enjoy!!!!! ( show less)
