This is a great series. I have nothing bad to say except that the dialogue could have been a bit better in my opinion. This said, every other aspect of this series was excellent. You should really consider checking this out, there are great battle scenes and a bit of a twisted mentality at times; but on the other hand comedy and even a tad bit of fan service thrown out in the mix, if you like that kind of addition.

The overall story is pretty great for the end effect, and is paced in such a way that the amount of episodes seems pretty well numbered at 26. There are a few movies too. Plus like 5 other episodes in a 2.2 release or something like that. I personally bought the Collectors Box Set which you can find similar to here...

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a decent Anime, which suffers from overhyping and some obvious flaws.

The Story is actually quite good... if you bother reading a wiki or a fan-summary, because the series itself does not narrate as much as one would like and seemingly abandons its story altogether halfway through the series.
The shift in tone and style is so strange that one can only shake his head and wonder why there are so many die-hard-fans of it. The mythology of its world and the the presentation and design of it are very good and unique nonetheless.

Dialogue is mainly a hit and miss, sometimes its good, sometimes its very bad.

The animation and action is great for a 1995 series. The only problem with it is, that its VERY obvious they cut the budget of the series halfway through it, so the resorted to reusing shots, using still-images or shots with very little animation.

If you let youself imersed into the world and if you like apocalyptic settings with religious references and awesome design, then you will still be entertained by Neon Genesis Evangelion. The only problem is that the main character is one of the least likeable main character i ever came across, and he is the central figure of the psychoanalysis in the second half of the anime. This is actually the first anime that I seriously got into and did it get me :). I couldn't put it down! My friend had to pry it away from me, although I resisted a lot. It's such a dramatic concept. I know it's not real and everything, but I think for 1995, it was brilliant. And I love the Evas. I feel like each has its own personality a little, even though I know they aren't "human" and only controlled. But Eva-02 I think is so Asuka, Eva-00 I can only see with Rei. And who doesn't like Touji, Kensuke, and especially Pen-Pen! I want a penguin just like him!~ (show less)

This is one of the more strange anime I watched. In the beginning I thought this is one of the "wimp becomes a hero" anime, but I was proven wrong, here the main character becomes more of a wimp as the story progresses. That's the reason I didn't like this anime! If you look at every aspect of the anime separately it doesn't look that bad. The story is ok, dialogues and animation are good, but the entertainment is bad. In the end I didn't like this anime but only because of the main character, he is just to much of a wimp for me. I guess if you don't mind that the main character is weeping all the time, than you can watch this anime, if not than better don't. (show less)
