Summary: In the year 2015, the Angels, huge, tremendously powerful, alien war machines, appear in Tokyo for the second time. The only hope for Mankind`s survival lies in the Evangelion, a humanoid fighting machine developed by NERV, a special United Nations agency. Capable of withstanding anything the Angels can dish out, the Evangelion`s one drawback lies in the limited number of people able to pilot them. Only a handful of teenagers, all born fourteen years ago, nine months after the Angels first appeared, are able to interface with the Evangelion. One such teenager is Shinji Ikari, whose father heads the NERV team that developed and maintains the Evangelion. Thrust into a maelstrom of battle and events that he does not understand, Shinji is forced to plumb the depths of his own inner resources for the courage and strength to not only fight, but to survive, or risk losing everything.

Neon Genesis Evangelion is a decent Anime, which suffers from overhyping and some obvious flaws.

The Story is actually quite good... if you bother reading a wiki or a fan-summary, because the series itself does not narrate as much as one would like and seemingly abandons its story altogether halfway through the series.
The shift in tone and style is so strange that one can only shake his head and wonder why there are so many die-hard-fans of it. The mythology of its world and the the presentation and design of it are very good and unique nonetheless. (read more)

I admit, I was a little late to the whole Evangelion party as I didn't see it fully until a few years ago and I'm kind of glad because I don't think I would've appreciated it as much if I was younger. The story is quite engaging for most of the series and even though Shinji can be a whiny, little brat sometimes, I still continued wanting to see what happened next.

I just wish they hadn't been so obvious about running out of time/money at the very end. It really shows and ends up with a rather anti-climactic ending.

It's interesting how in the middle of the struggle against the Angels, where their lives are on the line, the characters developed in a cyclic way. It's kind of frustrating to think that the reason the anime keeps you interested is the progress of the enemy(Angels) and the weapons(Evas). I still think there was a lot of room for characters like Misato, Gendo Ikari, Ritsuko and Toji to grow. The alternate ending brings a lot of confusion into the plot and leaves more questions than answers, even though the fighting scenes are amazing. I think the (read more)

This is a very complex anime. In a way it's very psychological and it has a lot of cool action sequences as well. It's intense and very symbollic at times. But just when you think something really cool is going to happen to change the world, it stops making sense and it drifts off into something else entirely. It starts to take you inside the characters' heads and kind of forgets about the Angels they were fighting and about trying to save the world and all that. Or maybe I missed the conclusion. In any case I felt no closure whatsoever. Either (read more)
